When you are traveling during the holidays, I know just how not only stressful it can be but also how nerve-wracking, especially if you are going somewhere that has a lot of snow. Snow is something that can ruin everything and there are ways that you can survive the holidays and the traveling … and that is what we are going to talk about in this blog.

One of the first things that you need to do is make sure that you check your flight online before you leave for the airport. That way you can make sure that your flight is going to be on time and you can even check into your flight, check your bags and make sure that you are all set as soon as you walk into the airport.

The next step is that if your flight is cancelled, you want to make sure that you contact the airline directly and figure out the best possible route. I know that things can happen but the airline is responsible for you getting home and if your flight is cancelled, they have to put you on another flight.

If you are anything like me, when you travel, you always over pack; which is terrible when you are going on a plane as they all have a weight limit of 50 pounds. Well, I have some good news for us over packers and that is that in addition to Virgin America being one of the best planes in the world … they have a 70 pound weight limit!

That means that you can have a bag that weighs upwards of 70 pounds on the plane and while you might have to check it … you can still rest assured that your bag will be taken care of. Another great thing about Virgin America is the fact that they are one of the only airlines that have free Wi-Fi in the plane!

To me … that is absolutely insane and I can tell you for sure that this particular airline is one of the best because of what they can offer.

Now that we have talked about how you can check into your flight online, it is now time for you to pick your seat. If you want to upgrade, make sure that you do it before you go to the airport – as you might end up on a waiting list otherwise. If you want a specific seat, there might be a fee but you could absolutely change your seat to get the one that you want before you even leave for the airport.

Next, you want to make sure that you pack your carry-on items with airport security in mind. Make sure that you keep your liquids and laptops in easy-to-access places, as they will have to go through the scanner by themselves. You also want to make sure that you dress accordingly.

That means that you need to have shoes that you can take on and off easily and that you do not have a belt that is going to get in the way on.

Flying around the holidays, no matter where you are flying is very, very difficult. The holidays are by far the busiest time for anyone and everyone that is flying to spend the holidays with their family. In the next few blogs, we are going to talk about some tips and tricks that will help you fly to anywhere in the world and help you get through those busy airports.

So, what are the worst — and by that, we mean the busiest — airports during the holiday? Well, if you live in the New York City area, you are pretty much SOL — JFK, La Guardia, and Newark are all going to be both busy and slow. Logan will go at a crawl, as will O’Hare, LAX, San Francisco, Atlanta, Denver, and Tacoma International.

But there is some hope, even though you may have to drive a bit to reach the closest airport that will not slow to a crawl during the long holiday weekend. Florida is a great place to find airports that aren’t crazily busy, in Jacksonville, West Palm Beach, and Fort Myers. Nashville, Richmond, Sacramento, Hartford CT, Orange County, and Cincinnati all have faster airports as well.

Thanksgiving travel is absolutely atrocious. The spirit of it is wonderful — most of us are traveling in order to spend time with family and friends, to celebrate the spirit of giving thanks — but the reality can be terrible, due to overcrowding in most major airports these days.

It can actually make a Thanksgiving trip well nigh impossible to plan, let alone execute. During the holiday weekend, travel promises to be so slow it will make snails and tortoises seem speedy.
